2011 Story Contest Rules

This year’s theme is WATER. It’s pretty much everywhere, you know.

Here are the official rules:
- Contest begins 12:01 AM Eastern Daylight Time (UTC-4), October 1, 2011. It’s already started! Hurry!
- Contest ends 11:59 PM Eastern Daylight Time (UTC-4), October 31, 2011.
- Submit all entries via e-mail to microhorror@gmail.com. To make my job a little bit easier, please specify in the title or body of the e-mail that the story is to be considered a contest entry.
- To be eligible, all submitted stories must have a word count of 666 or less, as determined by the word-count function in Microsoft Works. Titles and bylines do not count towards the limit.
- Only new stories are eligible for the contest. Reprints will not be accepted.
- Stories will be judged on their subjective merits, taking into account originality, scariness and adherence to the theme.
- Three (3) winners will receive real, tangible prizes! The precise nature of the prizes will be announced prior to the contest deadline.
- There is no limit to the number of entries that an author may submit prior to the deadline, but no author will receive more than one prize or prize package.
- MicroHorror.com submission policies remain the same. All submitted stories, winning or not, that are acceptable for publication will be published. Any contest submission that is judged ineligible (for example, a story that has nothing to do with the theme) may still be published on MicroHorror.com, provided that it meets the usual submission policies.
- The winners will be announced on November 1, 2011, or shortly thereafter.
- Nathan Rosen, Oonah Joslin and Jennifer Stakes will be the sole judges and arbiters. They are not eligible to win, nor are members of their immediate families or households. Any person who, for any reason, has been banned from submitting to MicroHorror.com is also ineligible.
- These rules are subject to change. Any changes will be announced on the front page of MicroHorror.com. Nathan Rosen reserves the right to cancel the contest at any time for any reason.
