Sounds of Nature
“Did you hear that?”
“Did you hear that!”
“What the heck is that?”
Sitting up in her sleeping bag, Jamie was becoming nervous as the sounds she was hearing seemed to be getting closer and closer to her tent.
“Wake up!”
Jamie tapped Tom on his shoulder hoping to wake him from his deep slumber. After waiting a moment and unhappy with the slowness of his response, Jamie shoved Tom in his sleeping bag to get the attention she felt the situation warranted.
“What the heck are you doing?”
“Are you kidding me? How did you sleep through all the noises?”
“Honey, we are camping. Nature makes noises. Most people find it relaxing. Go to bed.”
Unhappy with his wife, Tom zipped his sleeping bag to the top and rolled over as best as he could to turn away from her and mumbled, “Noises. You wake me up because you heard a twig crack in the wilderness, you’re crazy!”
Thump… Thump…
“…help…me…”
Thump… Thump…
“…help…me…”
Frozen in fear, Jamie prayed her mind was playing tricks on her. Could it be the wind? Some kids in the campsite nearby playing pranks on them?
“Tom, I… I think someone is outside of our tent. Tom?”
Annoyed that her husband had managed to go back to sleep, she shoved him once again in his sleeping bag.
“Are you kidding me?”
“Tom, seriously, I think there is someone outside of our tent.”
“Yeah, I am sure there is. Go to bed.”
“No! Come on, get up. I need you to go out there and look around. I think it might be those kids in the campsite next to us playing pranks.”
“Honey, it’s not going to happen. There is no big bad man with a machete in the woods. It’s such a cliché. You read too many horror stories for your own good.”
Exhausted, Tom rolled over and went back to sleep. Jamie laid there as still as possible hoping to go unnoticed to whatever had been moving about outside their tent. She was positive she heard a noise. She could swear she even heard a voice call for help. Eventually, her own exhaustion crept up on her and she fell asleep.
Thump… Thump…
“Oh my God! Help us!”
Thump… Thump…
“PLEASE, SOMEONE!”
Sitting up in her tent, Linda looked over at her boyfriend Mark who was sound asleep.
“Mark, get up! I think I heard someone call for help at the campsite next to us.”
“It’s just nature making noises, go back to bed!”
Ooooooh quite nice!
