Still Life

“Spill it!” Andrea knew when Julie had a secret. They’d been friends since childhood.

“Okay. He’s an important artist. I’ll say no more…”

“And he wants you to be the subject of an exhibition?”

“Part of… It’ll be a nude. What do you think?”

“Frankly, I’m envious.”

Julie slurped the last of her Cherry Coke and checked her watch. “Must fly!”

“Well, when immortality calls… See you in the Tate!”

The sculptures were astoundingly realistic. Andrea wondered if she’d see Julie here–and then she did–perfect in every detail–in a tank containing formaldehyde.

It said: Artist Unknown.

Short with a sharp tang, just the way I like my horror.

  8. Superb piece. There’s a strong argument that it’s incredibly difficult to have characterization in a short story of any size. Yet it’s not impossible. “Still Life” is proof.

Joslin hit a homer with this one.
