Penelope and the Bulls
Once the American tourist got her drunk, he had his way with her, and she didn’t mind much.
Raoul minded, though.
Then the whole village came for her.
She didn’t cry when they affixed the mask to her skull with nails.
They dragged her along the road to the arena standing outside the village.
They placed her in the center and she waited quietly as the stands filled with people she used to know.
As the men dressed as bulls entered, she found Raoul in the crowd and stared into his eyes, until even he, finally, had to look away.
