Good evening, boils and ghouls. As of this moment, your humble editor actually has things under control. Not only is my in-box clear (and ready to start filling up again with horrifying new tales), but I have also shipped the 2010 contest awards to their rightful winners. That’s right; I have entrusted them to the tender mercies of the US Postal Service and the Royal Mail, and they should arrive in a matter of days. My part of the job is fulfilled, and that feels pretty darned good right about now.
But what is the nature of the awards, you ask? See for yourselves. I’ve placed the photo behind the jump in case the winners don’t want any spoilers.
Now I can finally relax just a little bit, and start planning the 2011 contest, which I promise will go more smoothly. For one thing, I don’t have another appendix to lose.
Stay scary!

I’ve fallen behind again, and I’m sorry. I just wanted to drop a quick note to assure anyone paying attention that I’m still around and working on things. Current backlog is about three weeks.
It has come to my attention that Space, beloved cat of Oonah Joslin, has passed away at the ripe old age of 19. She was a good cat, and will be greatly missed.

Happy 2011, kiddies! Too bad I’ve been derelict in my editorial duties and fallen behind again. This time around I don’t even have a medical excuse. Mea maxima culpa. I’m getting caught up, though, and I thank you for your patience.
And in case anyone was wondering, there will be prizes sent to the winners of the Halloween contest, but I’m afraid I’ve gotten bogged down on that front as well. I promise it will happen.
I wish I had something more exciting to post here.
Winter has come on fast here in Baltimore. No snow to speak of yet, but it’s obscenely cold and windy out there. I hope you’re all managing to stay nice and warm, which ought to be easy for those of you in the southern hemisphere or in Hell.
Jennifer Stakes is doing a wonderful job helping me out. I’ve actually gotten the backlog down to within the usual 14-day limit. Everybody say thank you to Jennifer!
And are you looking for a last-minute holiday gift? Check out the MicroHorror shop for books and DVDs guaranteed to delight and scare!
Here’s a behind-the-scenes announcement, boys and ghouls. MicroHorror, as of right now, is no longer a solo endeavor. Jennifer Stakes of Writer in the Wilderness has volunteered to come aboard as an assistant editor. She’ll help me work through the backlog and get your stories up in a more timely fashion. She’s taken on the new e-mail address of jennifer.microhorror@gmail.com, so don’t be alarmed if you get a reply from her instead of me. I hope you’ll all welcome her.
Jennifer, thank you.
It’s been a long and grueling process, but Oonah and I are finally, after all this time, ready to announce the three winners of the 2010 MicroHorror Halloween Story Contest. Selecting our favorites wasn’t at all easy, but after great consideration and debate three stories rose to the top. Behind the jump, I turn the podium over to the lovely and talented Oonah Joslin to announce the winners.

While Oonah and I select the winners, we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to reveal the inspiration for this year’s contest theme. Space, you see, is the name of Oonah’s elderly and much loved cat. In Oonah’s own words:
I thought this lacunae twixt the contest and the adjudication, might be an opportune TIME to reveal the true nature of SPACE
SPACE being in fact, Oonah Joslin’s cat, who has occupied considerable SPACE in her home for the past 18 years — which in cat terms, makes her about 90, and who will leave an even larger SPACE behind. She was a little wild thing when she arrived but if anyone can tame space, it’s Oonah.
SPACE thanks you all for your contributions to her moment of fame.
Photos attached. Space3 is her insisting on being fed MIAOUW, Mummy! But in reality these days it is but a squeak ;-)

My fiends, I thank you all for your patience during these peculiarly disrupted weeks, and I am happy and relieved to finally announce that all accepted entries into the 2010 Halloween Story Contest have been posted. There are 59 stories in the list, and I’m proud to be able to host all of these wonderful tales. It now falls to Oonah and me to select the three winners, a task which we embrace despite its difficulty. I’ll announce the winners as soon as we’ve made our decisions.
And meanwhile, somebody gets a shirt! One go on Random.org later, and the winner is…
Clyde Wolfe!
Congratulations, Clyde; wear it in good health. Check your e-mail for further information.
In conclusion, thank you to Threadless.com for helping make this contest just a little bit more special, thank you to Oonah Joslin for being a wonderful friend and ally, thank you to each and every person out there who submitted a story for the contest, and no thanks at all to my stinkin’ appendix for abandoning me just when I needed it most. Stay tuned for the winners!
Happy Day of the Dead, everyone. The deadline for the contest submissions has come and gone, and I’m working as quickly as I can to get the entries up. I haven’t forgotten about that whole Threadless thing, either. Please bear with me, and stay scary!
