It’s the 2013 Story Contest!

October again! Monsters are teeming / and people are screaming / and running in fear! / It’s the most wonderful time of the year! That’s right, kiddies, and you’d better sharpen your scalpels, because I’ve got a doozy of a theme for you.

The theme for 2013 is… EYES!

Some say that eyes are windows to the soul. Others say eyes are things to be plucked out if they offend you. But they’re weird, aren’t they? These little round globules of matter and fluid, perched so jauntily in their sockets. Rods, cones, lenses, vitreous humor. When functioning to their full potential, they let us perceive shape, light, distance, and even color. And what of non-human eyes? They may have compound lenses, or extra membranes to protect them, or the power to perceive things invisible to us.

So I want you to write about eyes. They may belong to humans, to animals, or to something else entirely. They may be found in the usual spots, or in places most unexpected. They may fail when needed most… or they may work too well.

You have 666 words in which to make me think about eyes in a whole new way. As always, creativity and originality are key! Watch this space for further announcements about prizes, judges, and other contest details. The rules and submission link are right here.

See you around…

  1. Eyes… EYES…I don’t see it…

Kidding aside – I love this contest, and I look forward to it every year. Going to get going right now!

  5. Interesting. I like the LOOK of this this and think EYE have an EYE-dea.

Man, that was cheesy even for me.
